Delta Grand Resort marking 30 years in Kelowna with fundraiser for BC Youngsters’s Hospital – Kelowna Information
August 15 marks the 30-year anniversary of Kelowna’s Delta Grand Okanagan, a four-star hotel that’s welcomed millions of guests since 1992.
Marriott International started business 95 years ago as an A&W root beer stand. Marriott will mark 30 years in business in Kelowna by hosting a root beer float fundraiser to raise money for the BC Children’s Hospital.
Hotel manager Joseph Clohessy says they are ready to give back.
“There’s approximately 19 kids everyday from the Okanagan that enter the doors of the BC Children’s Hospital. So even though it’s physically not here, we need to support it,” said Clohessy.
The root beer float day on Monday follows a golf tournament hosted Marriott Hotels from around British Columbia that raised $15,000 in May.
The Delta Grand is inviting everyone in the community – not just guests – to support the fundraiser and to help bring positive change to the lives of young sick children across the province.
“Our doors are open to the public, we host them all the time coming through here enjoying pathways to the boardwalk. We would love to see everyone come on down and purchase a root beer float and contribute it to the BC Children’s Hospital, all funds will go to them,” he said.
To further celebrate 30 years in Kelowna, the Delta Grand Hotel will begin a complete renovation of their 262 guest rooms, bringing in new flooring, new wall vinyl, new furnishings and more.
“We’re now moving into the phase of redoing all of our guest rooms this fall, and we are well into the planning with our owners, designers, procurement, and project management to go ahead and renovate all of our guest rooms this fall. It’s going to be exciting. It’s great to continue to upgrade that product and have it available to all of our tourists and locals who come to use our facilities for years to come,” said Clohessy.
The root beer float fundraiser will be happening at the Delta Grand Hotel on Monday between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. with the goal of raising over $1,000 for the BC Children’s Hospital.
