Those who enjoy a scavenger hunt, while helping to raise money for a good cause, will want to mark Aug. 14 in their calendar.

For the second year, Elevation Outdoors is hosting the Great Kelowna Scavenger Hunt, to raise money for the local non-profit, while giving funds back to local businesses.

Elevation Outdoors has operated in the Okanagan since 2007, providing youth in the community the opportunity to learn a variety of sports.

This year’s scavenger hunt kicks off at 11 a.m. on Aug. 14, with the first clue being emailed to participants. The hunt for local gift cards around downtown Kelowna will continue through the day.

Because the hunt’s prizes are gift cards, the event supports local businesses who have been struggling during the pandemic. Last year, $3,900 was used to buy the prizes.

“Not only does this event raise some much-needed funds for Elevation as we navigate the impacts of COVID-19 on our own fundraising, but it provides members of our community with a great way to get outside and have some fun,” said Mike Greer, executive director of Elevation Outdoors.

“Last year the feedback from our participants was awesome, and being able to help support the many businesses in our community that struggled over the past 18 months creates a positive impact that is felt far more broadly than by just the participants of our programs.”

Last year, a total of $12,993 was raised, and $2,000 of that was also given to the Rotary Club of Kelowna – Morningside.

Those looking to participate solo can do so for $20, while teams of up to six people can partake for $40. Tickets are available here.

Those looking to sponsor the event, or businesses who’d like to host a secret hunt location, can reach out to Greer here.
