OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – A former Kelowna Mayor’s communications director and local meteorologist has been sentenced to two years probation for serving up Douglas County’s health director Dr. Adi Pour, threatened when pandemic restrictions were put in place.
Kelowna-born Ronald Penzkowski, 57, appeared in court today after failing to file two third-degree offenses in September.
Penzkowski, also known by the name “Ron Gerard”, was jailed at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in March after sending a series of “intrusive emails” threatening to tell Dr. Pour to lynch or slit her throat. From 2009 to 2010 he was the communications director for Kelowna Mayor Jim Suttle. In the 1980s and 1990s he was a meteorologist at KETV and KPTM.
Penzkowski’s attorney Steve Lefler said the judge had taken into account the unusual circumstances he was in the middle of a pandemic and had shut down a number of businesses. Also that the defendant has seen a counselor since arrest and has gone through a number of assessments to the satisfaction of the court.
