FRASER, Anne – Kelowna Obituaries
Shirley Anne (“Anne”) Fraser
On November 20, 2022, Mom (aka Anne, Amma, and Nanna) passed away peacefully with her entire family right beside her sharing various stories and immense love in her final moments. Mom is no longer struggling but her presence has left a huge void in many lives.
Born October 27, 1936, in Winnipeg, Manitoba to parents James and Mary Rutherford, Mom is predeceased by her parents, husband Glen and sister Betty. Mom leaves behind her family, sister Janie, sons Geoff and Stirling (Cheryl) and her cherished granddaughters Devon and Shalynn, many life-long friends and various people she touched in her life.
From a young age, Mom moved with her family around Canada for her Dad’s RCMP postings, finally settling in Toronto. Mom worked in the insurance industry for several years before meeting Glen and starting to raise a family. Almost every weekend and holiday were either spent at the cottage on the Ottawa River or on the skill hills.
After Toronto, Mom and Dad packed the family off to North Vancouver where the family settled into life for 7 years. In the late 70’s, Kelowna was calling, a place that Mom lived and loved for 45 years.
There are so many moments in Mom’s life that she could be proud of, including:
– Fulfilling her dream to go back to college in her late 50’s to further her education
– Helping raise her granddaughter to be an amazing young person
– Being the stay-at-home mom who was always there for her boys
– Consummate hockey mom that sacrificed so much for Geoff and Stirling
Words to describe Mom:
– Elegant, always well put together (she loved shopping for nice clothes)
– Favourite Sayings – Just a titch, Love you more, ….
– Dog Lady of the Mission – known for walking two large dogs all over the Mission for 30+ years
There are many special people who cared for Mom during her time at Chartwell Chatsworth, but some who became ‘family’ including Dr. Hendriks and the special care aides who loved Mom’s quick wit, smile and her joy of walking outside every day.
Anyone wishing to share their love and appreciation for Mom are welcomed to donate in her name to any of her favourite charities; Kelowna Food Bank, BC SPCA, and the BC Cancer Society.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Kelowna in early 2023.
