Kelowna firefighters announce passing of one among their members
The Kelowna Fire Department had some sad news to announce today regarding a member that has been serving the community for the past 29 years.
According to Kelowna Professional Firefighters Association, Captain Joe Kolar passed away peacefully last night after battling cancer.
“It is with heavy hearts that we must announce the passing of Brother Joe Kolar,” they said. “ Joe passed away peacefully last night surrounded by family.
“Kolar committed 29 years of his life in service with the Kelowna Fire Department, and made the ultimate sacrifice after a 7 ½ month battle with cancer.”
“All our lives were touched by Joe in one way or the other and we are all better people for knowing him.”

The West Kelowna Fire Rescue offered words of support regarding his passing as well.
“West Kelowna firefighters are deeply saddened by the passing of joe. An incredible family man and brother to many. He will forever be missed but never forgetten. Our thoughts are with Local 953 and the Kolar family.”
Service arrangements for Kolar will be announced next week.
