Fire sparks near Big White

A fire that was sparked Monday near Big White Ski Resort is 0.1 hectares in size.

“It is classified as out of control. It is a spot fire. Earlier today crews were on scene and a helicopter was actioning the fire,” said BC Wildfire officer Shaelee Stearns.

The Derickson Lake fire that started on June 29th remains out of control and is estimated 1,140 hectares.

“We had 23 personnel assisted by a helicopter and air tankers throughout the day,” Stearns added.

There’s another wildfire burning near Big White Ski Resort.

It was sparked by lightning Monday, southeast of Nevertouch Lake.

Helicopters were working to get it under control and BC Wildfire Service personnel were en route to the area.

A cluster of three other fires started June 29, north of the new blaze. Only one, the Derickson Lake fire, remains out of control. It has scorched an estimated 1,140 hectares.
