New search for Carate Park opens in West Kelowna

The City of West Kelowna opens the fall with the opening of Carate Park in a new look.

After a redesign this summer, the park in the Westbank Center, near the junction of Majoros and Witt, is ready to welcome residents.

“We invite the community to stop by and experience the features of Carate Park that are unique to West Kelowna, including a unique playground and walking path that connects two pollinator gardens for the bees,” said Stacey Harding, Parks and Fleet Manager.

“The $ 140,000 12-week improvement project was made possible primarily by spending on new developments and upgrades were completed last week.”

The transformation was amazing, but you have to check it out for yourself.

In light of the seasonal fall weather, the city also announced today that barbecuing is again allowed in West Kelowna’s parks.

Fortunately, the cooler, wetter weather has reduced the risk of fire, which was high to extreme all summer and has now decreased to moderate, said Jason Brolund, West Kelowna chief fire officer.

“Park users must take all reasonable precautions while barbecuing in our parks or anywhere else, and remember that smoking or vaping is prohibited in our parks, on our paths, or in public spaces in the City of West Kelowna.”

The city made it clear that the lifting of the barbecue ban will apply to recently reopened parks in Glenrosa that have been closed because of the Mount Law forest fire.
