PATTERSON, Joan Fairley – Kelowna Obituaries
Joan Fairley Patterson March 21, 1930 – September 6, 2022
It is with heavy hearts that the family share the passing of Joan Patterson. A long-time resident of Kelowna, at the age of 92, Joan passed peacefully at KGH on Sept. 6, 2022.
Joan was born in Saskatchewan and moved with her parents to Vancouver at the age of 6.
Joan had an athletic and competitive spirit and embraced the opportunities the city had to offer. Joan graduated from Secondary School early at the age of 16, she then attended UBC and took her training at Vancouver General Hospital for her career as an X-Ray Technician.
As a teen and young adult her passion was figure skating. She was a member of the Kerrisdale Skating Club and competed and performed in various ice shows throughout BC In 1955 she and her dance partner won a silver medal in the BC Championships for “Couples Dance”.
In 1956 she married Kelowna resident Glenn Patterson, and the couple settled in Kelowna. As a newlywed she was hired for the opening of the Downtown X-Ray Clinic where she enjoyed a successful career until her retirement in 1992.
Joan and Glenn truly enjoyed the Okanagan Lifestyle together. They enjoyed the company of really close friends and raised their 3 children to have an appreciation for nature. Much time was spent at the beach, in the mountains, fishing the many lakes, and winter weekends were spent skiing at Big White. Joan continued to ski with a group of lady friends into her late 70s and enjoyed golf in the other seasons. She was both fortunate and grateful to enjoy a long, healthy, active life to the end.
Joan was a loving Wife and Mother, forever supportive of friends and family. She had a spark for life that showed in all that she did. She adored her grandchildren and had great pride and respect for their unique differences. She was a truly kind and generous sole, who never missed an opportunity to lift someone’s spirit or help someone in need. She was much loved by those who new her and will be deeply missed.
The family wishes to acknowledge her caring neighbors who offered help when needed and thank the lovely women who became her friends and walking companions for the last couple years (on even the coldest of winter days) and special thanks to Anita and Zavier who she cared for greatly.
Joan is predeceased by her husband Donald Glenn Patterson (Sept 29, 1991).
She is survived by her 3 children and 8 grandchildren:
son Robert, his wife Angie and their children Andrea and Kevin;
daughter Pam, her husband Karl and their children, Riley Kyle Jared Luke and Mitch;
