Police arrest man accused of assaulting and robbing Kelowna taxi driver
(UPDATE: Jan 17 @ 11:15 am) – Police have arrested a man in connection with this morning’s alleged assault and robbery of a Kelowna taxi driver.
“Upon further discussion with the victim at a local hospital, he was able to confirm there was only one passenger and not two as originally believed,” explained the Kelowna RCMP.
With the lone suspect now in custody, police say there is no concern for public safety.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
(Original story: Jan. 17 @ 8:35 am) – The Kelowna RCMP is investigating an incident concerning that happened early this morning.
According to police, a local taxi driver picked up two men at an undisclosed location and drove them, as requested, to the area of Raymer Road and Riley Court.
When they arrived, one of the two men allegedly assaulted the driver by striking him with a weapon, which caused the taxi to crash into a fence.
The RCMP said the two men then robbed the driver, left the taxi and fled on foot.
Officers responded to the incident along with the police dog unit, but the suspects were not located.
The taxi driver was transported to Kelowna General Hospital.
