Vaccination order for Metropolis of West Kelowna staff arrives
The City of West Kelowna is following in the footsteps of its neighbor across Okanagan Lake and many other British Columbia communities.
As of January 4, 2022, all city employees must be fully vaccinated in order to continue working in their functions.
The city said the intent of this policy is to help protect workers and the community while also enabling city workers to safely and effectively provide services to residents.
“During the pandemic, we worked closely with our staff to create a safe work environment in accordance with public health orders, and apart from those orders, we also need to do as much as possible,” said Paul Gipps, chief administrative officer.
“The health and well-being of our employees and our citizens continue to have top priority. This policy will not only help protect our employees, but also protect our citizens whom we serve in all of the city’s facilities. “
It won’t be implemented until January to give employees who haven’t yet had an injection enough time to get both their first and second doses.
The policy applies to all employees in the city, regardless of where they work.
