It’s a sweet deal for the Central Okanagan Food Bank.

It has signed a temporary lease with the owners of Dolicious Donuts and is now operating out of a new West Kelowna location at 3711 Elliot Road. The space is 2,500 square feet, slightly larger than the previous home and includes a walk-in freezer and cooler.

The deal ensures a short-term location while the food bank plans a new facility on the existing Churchill Road property.

“It was important for us to find a temporary new home for the food bank in order to meet the challenges of our staff and volunteers, as well as address the growing need from community members requesting services,” said Trevor Moss, CEO of the food bank.

“Since April of this year we have experienced an additional 23% increase in client usage, and we don’t see this trend slowing down anytime soon,” he added.

The hours will stay the same.

“We are not shutting anything down or changing our hours of operation,” says Tammie Watson CDO of the food bank, “we will continue to make sure people experiencing food insecurity have full access to services in the community they live in.”
